The Research Support and Development (RSD) Department provides various types of assistance, resources, and services to researchers, faculty, and staff of DLSMHSI to facilitate and enhance the development of research projects across the Institute. The Department oversees various research activities including skills training, project development, technical review, data management and analysis, research findings, communications, and publications. It also forms, maintains, and manages the different teams/groups of experts who could assist researchers in their research projects.
The Department fosters research collaboration among the services of the Institution and other organizations and agencies by facilitating collaborative initiatives. It also fosters interdisciplinary interaction between different research groups.
Furthermore, RSD develops mentoring programs to enhance the skills of personnel wanting to do research, particularly in clinical trials.
RSD is also responsible for the DLSMHSI Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences.

- Research Education, Training and Development
The Research Education, Training and Development (RETD) Unit provides the necessary support, assistance and guidance to faculty, students, physicians and researchers in initiating, planning and conducting high quality research projects. It is the lead office that plans, implements, and manages research-focused educational programs, training, and initiatives to enhance research capability and productivity within the Institution. It is also involved in the development of research-related modules with high-quality educational content, implementing various training programs and activities to enhance research skills, fostering research-oriented environments, and advancing professional development opportunities within our organization.
Specific functions:
- Organizes and conducts various research-related educational and training programs that will enhance the research capability of the faculty, physicians/residents, staff and students
- Assists researchers in the conceptualization, development, implementation and completion of their research projects by offering technical support and guidance;
- Fosters research collaboration and partnerships with other academic and research institutions and organizations to encourage innovative research initiatives; and
- Provides a supportive environment to researchers through research mentorship programs and research networking activities.
- Research Dissemination and Publication
The Research Dissemination and Publication (RDP) Unit provides the necessary support and guidance to faculty, students, physicians, and researchers on effective dissemination and publication of research findings. It is the lead office that plans, implements and executes research dissemination efforts within the organization and oversees the research publication process, ensures the quality and ethical standards of research outputs, fosters collaborations, and manages a team to effectively disseminate research findings to various stakeholders.
Specific functions:
- Organizes research fora / research conferences / scientific proceedings on a regular basis to disseminate research findings;
- Supervises the publication process of the DLSMHSI journal including manuscript preparation, submission, and review, and ensures publication of at least two (2) journals every academic year;
- Collaborates with research editors, authors, and reviewers to ensure high publication standards, and fosters partnerships with other academic institutions, publishers and industry stakeholders to enhance research dissemination efforts; and
- Provides support, guidance, and mentorship to researchers who want to publish their research findings.
