DLSMHSI is the sole institution in Region 4-A (CALABARZON) offering a BS Biochemistry program under the College of Allied Sciences. It was first offered in SY 2014-2015, as the first trimestral program in the Institution. This program is designed to produce chemists that specialize in biochemistry. It is a unique trimestral course structure that allows for a faster-paced curriculum, and students can choose from three (3) tracks: Professional, Medicine, and Specialized Biochemistry Premed. The program's achievements include consistently producing skilled chemists and chemical technicians, contributing to academia, industry, and research. The BS Biochemistry program has become a dynamic force, consistently delivering exceptional professionals who make significant contributions to both the sciences and healthcare sectors.

The College of Allied Sciences aims to:

  1. Develop students with a strong foundation in the principles of chemistry and biochemistry;
  2. Equip students with practical laboratory skills and proficiency in experimental techniques relevant to chemistry and biochemistry; and
  3. Produce chemists that specialize in biochemistry, particularly in the allied health-related industries and research.

The TEST TUBE represents the continuous scientific work being done in the fields of biochemistry and biotechnology. It serves as a reminder that simple test tube-based experiments may create new ideas, large impacts, and meaningful innovations in the world.

DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ACID (DNA), the biological molecule carrying the genetic instructions of all organisms, represents the direct symbolic link among biochemistry, biotechnology, and medical sciences. Through DNA-based studies, scientific developments in the fields of biochemistry and biotechnology (e.g. polymerase chain reaction, recombinant DNA technology, gene cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, mechanistic studies on DNA repair, gene therapy, DNA microarray, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing) became possible and produced new knowledge and technologies applied to human health, agriculture, environment, and biomedical development.

The book represents the source of knowledge in understanding the life sciences translating theoretical biochemistry and biotechnology concepts to application and practice. In detail, an OPEN BOOK signifies three things: (1) passion for learning and knowledge, (2) wisdom, and (3) drive for innovation.

The THREE AROMATIC HETEROCYCLIC RINGS FROM PYRIMIDINES are the representative figures to signify the importance of understanding the structure and function of biological molecules in relation to life sciences. Pyrimidines, along with purines, are nitrogenous bases found in the core DNA structure and are considered to be its building blocks. This signifies the utmost importance of initially understanding the fundamentals of life as a key towards increased scientific thrust and development. The inferred concept of electron delocalization in the rings signifies the college’s stability towards producing quality undergraduate students and creative Lasallian activities.

The LASALLIAN STAR represents the college’s utmost adherence to the Lasallian Core Values of Spirit of Faith, Zeal of Service, Communion in Mission, and Reverence for Life, which serve as the guiding light in all of its endeavors.

This marks the dawn of a new era, and also the mark of the end of an epoch. Let us all transition from the old, and bravely go to the incoming period of new beginnings and opportunities.
